Mr. Nabil ASSAF
FAO Representative in Jordan
Mr. Nabil Assaf, a national of Lebanon, holds a Master of Research in Forest Systems and Products from the University of Lleida-Spain, in addition to a Master’s degree in Ecology /Natural Resources Management from the National Forestry School of Engineers in Salé-Morocco and a Bachelor’s Degree in Water and Forestry Engineering. He joined FAO in 2010 as Forestry Officer at the Sub Regional Office for North Africa (SNE), Tunis, Tunisia. Mr. Assaf Served as FAO Representative in Algeria in the duration from the year 2011 up until June of the year 2020. He started his career in 1997 as Site Manager for the European Union, the French National Office of forests and the Ministry of Agriculture of Lebanon, for the project “Assistance to the Green Cover Protection in Lebanon “. From 1999 to 2005, he also worked as a consultant (Forest) for the European Union and Institute for University Cooperation of Rome (Italian NGO) for a project on the rehabilitation of the agriculture sector in Southern Lebanon. From 2000 to 2003, he was Head of the Forestry, Soil and Water Department at the Lebanese Agriculture Research Institute (IRAL), Beirut, Lebanon. From 2003 to 2010, he acted as Team Leader/Forestry Officer at the Ministry of Environment in Beirut, Lebanon. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Technical Coordinator – Lebanon for the International Spanish cooperation Agency and the Forest Technology Center of Catalonia (CTFC), Spain for the project “Development of skills and tools of the sustainable management and preservation of forestry resources and revitalization of rural communities in Syria and Lebanon. From 2007 to 2010, he was also a University Teacher for the Master’s Degree in Science and Environmental Management, Saint Joseph University, Beirut, Lebanon. Mr. ASSAF is currently holding the position of FAO Representative in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as of July 27, 2020.
